At Osprey, we already know firsthand how great the South Waterfront is. But, as a brand new apartment community in one of the more recently developed neighborhoods in Portland, we also know that a lot of folks around here haven’t caught on to how truly special this corner of the Rose City can be. That’s why we’ve taken to blogging about everything in this area, from the restaurants, to the bars, to the people, to the monthly events; it’s our mission to get folks excited about living in Portland’s South Waterfront! We’ve already posted about our 5 Favorite Bars in Portland’s South Waterfront, so this week we’re taking it up a notch and featuring 5 Crucial Happy Hours Near the South Waterfront. Here it goes:

1. Departure

4-6pm daily

Atop the Meier & Frank Building, on the 15th floor, is where you’ll find Departure, a well-reviewed and equally well-regarded new restaurant that seamlessly blends Chinese, Japanese, and Korean flavors. Aside from providing delicious Asian-inspired cuisine, with the help of Pac-northwest bounty, provides an atmosphere and cocktail menu that is, well…a departure from what you might expect out of a Portland Bar. With soaring skyline views from atop the Nines Hotel, departure feels like it’s straight out of LA or Miami.

2. Elephant’s On Corbett

Daily 3-6pm

Elephants on Corbett made an appearance on a recent post of ours about our favorite bars in the South Waterfront neighborhood of Portland, and now it’s back, thanks to it’s smashing happy hour! Like we said in our other post, Elephant’s does so many different things and it does them all so well that it’s hard to not default to them as your first choice for everything. They’re bar and signature cocktails are truly inspired, and yes, they’re happy hour deals are out of this world.

Happy Hour Highlights include:

  • $4 House Wine
  • $1.50 off every Entree

3. Aquariva

3-6pm daily/ 3-10pm Monday

Aquariva, directly adjacent to the River’s Edge Hotel & Spa (and a quick jaunt from Osprey), is a great option if you’re after more of an elevated Happy Hour experience. The Bar is a fantastic spot to relax for locals and guest alike. The hand-crafted cocktails pair well with the serene view of the Willamette. There’s also eight local beers, as well as local wines and variety of spirits from local distilleries. If you’re in the South Waterfront and your hunting for a refined Happy Hour, make sure to check out Aquariva.

4. Cha Cha Cha

Located just up the road from Osprey, Cha Cha Cha is the South Waterfront’s premiere Mexican Eatery. They pride themselves on providing the South WaterFront with traditional Mexican fare that’s both sustainable and authentic. Each of their purveyors supply them with product that’s local and organic and sourced using the most sustainable methods available. But beyond that, their food is awesomely delicious, and their Happy Hour is incredible – an absolute must if you’re after a margarita that’s both delicious, and easy on your wallet.

Happy Hour highlights:

  • $7.95 for 4 Dorado Taquitos
  • $6 Margarita
  • $3.50 draft beer
  • $7 Blue Agave Tequila

5. Imperial

Mon-Fri 2-6pm/Weekends 3-6pm/10-11pm Sun-Thur/Fri and Sat 11-Midnight

Imperial is a standout – it’s the only Happy Hour on this list to feature late night specials. Located in the Historic Hotel Lucia, Imperial is a restaurant and bar that was opened by Renowned Chef Vitaly Paley in 2012. The food relies on Oregon’s amazing bounty along with a wood fire grill and a rotisserie that incorporate the use of native hard and fruitwoods. They do breakfast, lunch, and dinner and all of their food focuses on healthy yet simple dishes that are precise in their preparation and incredibly delicious. Plus, their Happy Hour deals are out of this world.

Highlights include:

  • $6 Imperial Flat-Top Burger
  • $8 Fried Chicken
  • $5 Tap Tails
  • $5 Microbrew Draft

So, does each of these tantalizing Happy Hours give you enough reasons to get excited about the South Waterfront?
