Portland is such an energetic and engaging city; there’s always a fun event or two just around the corner. But, because there’s so much going on, it can sometimes be hard to choose. So, if you’re worried about how to best spend your time in Portland this month, DO NOT FRET – here are 9 Portland Events in September that you absolutely can’t miss:
Pix patisserie’s Movies at Dusk (Every Wednesday in September)
Every Wednesday this month Pix Patisserie is hosting outdoor movies. Nothing says summer like an outdoor movie and Pix Patisserie is doing it right by showing some true classics while providing free popcorn and a six-tap Beer & Cider Garden. Here’s what’s playing this month:

Time-Based Art Festival ‘16 (9/8-18)
From September 08–18, 2016, PICA’s Time-Based Art Festival activates the city of Portland, Oregon, with contemporary art projects that bring artists and audiences together, creating a vibrant community through live performances, music, screenings, workshops, talks, and visual art installations. PICA works hard to champion those artists who are challenging forms and working across mediums, from dance to performance to visual art. This year’s 14th annual festival features artists from near and far – those that reflect our current cultural moment. TBA strives to expose audiences to artists from regions not normally presented in the US, with projects this year hailing from Lebanon, Bulgaria, South Korea, France, and beyond. Feast Portland (9/15-18)
Hailed by some as the best food festival in the entire country, Feast Portland is much more than your typical foodie fest. It’s a whole movement dedicated to harnessing the energy and creativity that’s currently driving America’s culinary renaissance, and directing that towards a good cause. Feast Portland proudly supports charities and organizations that are working to eliminate childhood hunger in Oregon as well as across the country. Since 2012, the festival has donated more than $230,000 to different charities. This year, Feast Portland’s sole charitable partner is Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon. From uniquely impressive large-scale events featuring leading chefs from all over the US to intimate, hands-on classes, collaborative dinners, and panels, Feast offers some of the most memorable culinary experiences around!
The Color Run (9/17)
The Color Run is one of the largest event series on the planet and one of the first of its kind. Originally founded in 2012, the number one goal of The Color Run is to produce the ‘Happiest 5k on the Planet’ by providing participants with a completely unforgettable experience. The event celebrates health, happiness, and individuality, and strives to help participants achieve their fitness goals by providing a fun, un-intimidating running environment. This year, The Tropicolor World Tour includes the sights and sounds of an unforgettable island getaway. The experience that Color Runners already know and love will be amplified with an all-new Tropicolor Zone on the course, where runners will be bathed in a tropical array of colors and island scents as they pass through palm trees, arches, and island-style music. Portland Race for The Cure (9/18)
Coming to Tom McCall Waterfront Park, just a quick jaunt up the river from Osprey, Portland’s Race for The Cure, which is now celebrating 25 years of success! The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Series is the world’s current largest and most successful educational and fundraising event for breast cancer. The series of 10K and 5K runs and fitness walks raise massive funds and generates significant awareness for the breast cancer movement and celebrates breast cancer survivorship while honoring those who have lost their battle with the disease. Since it started, the Race for the Cure has grown from one race with 800 people in Dallas, to a global phenomenon of more than 140 Races and nearly 2 million people participating across four continents. The Race for the Cure welcomes folks of all ages and levels of fitness and ability and the gladly welcome anyone who wants to donate time, money or effort to their cause. What better way to get some exercise and support a great cause in Portland, OR?
DoveLewis, a non-profit emergency animal hospital in Portland is hosting a fundraiser for their blood bank on Sunday 9/18! After a summer outside, your dog will likely need a thorough cleaning. Why not give them a refreshing bath while supporting the DoveLewis Blood Bank? Bring your family and furry friends to the 22nd annual Dogtoberfest® – Portland’s biggest dog wash! Enjoy live music, food, beer (including the special brew Dogwash Pale Ale), and a variety of vendors, all while your pup receives a wash and nail trim. Donations and proceeds from the event go toward our Blood Bank, which provides dogs and cats with nearly 600 life-saving blood transfusions each year.
Drive in At Zidell Yards (9/22-9/26)
Zidell Yards, which is right around the corner from Osprey, is another venue for outdoor movies. Hosted by the NW Film Center, the screenings at Zidell Yards provide those in the South Waterfront with a traditional drive-in movie experience. The gates at Zidell open at 5 pm and films start at 7:30 pm, with food and drink for sale by local food-cart vendors. There’s one film a night from 9/22-9/26. Don’t have a car? No problem! Affordable Art for Everyone (9/24)
Affordable Art for Everyone is a unique art sale event where more than 80 artists offer high-quality work for under $100- pieces that would typically sell for much more. At last year’s event, there were paintings, ceramics, glass, jewelry, wood, metalwork, and photography, and you can expect similar offerings this year. This is a unique opportunity to purchase quality art at outstanding prices. Affordable Art for Everyone will be held in the Main Exhibit Hall at the Washington County Fair Complex, an indoor, fully accessible building with an ATM, ample free parking, and restrooms. Fruit and Hop Cider End of Summer Celebration (9/24)
No better way to cap off the summer than some deliciously fruity beverages. Portland Cider Co.’s End of Summer Celebration, featuring Fruit & Hop infused ciders from the Northwest, (including all four of those created by Portland Cider Co. for their exclusive Fruit Hop Summer Series) is at the end of the month! The celebration is happening at Clackamas Taproom & Cidery and will feature additional brews from Bauman’s Cider, Cider Riot, and Finnriver Cider, along with onsite food carts, Braddah Bowls & Ramy’s Lamb Shack, from 3-8pm.
